Cherry Picker...

I am a homer when it comes to Washington sports teams. Good. Bad. Rebuilding. Champs. I love them. Its just great when we get lucky enough to get a superstar. The latest superstar we have gracing the ice in DC is Alex Ovechkin. He is an offensive juggernaut. The speed and power and creativity from this guy is outstanding and I am looking forward to seeing him with the Caps for a long long time. That being said....Coach Hanlon has quite a task on his hands. You get all of this offense, with very little defense. I'm not saying he won't hit someone every now and then, but you will be hard pressed to see him actually play D. Hell, sometimes he'll wait at the blueline for his teammates to clear their own zone. I mean its a great problem to have, but this past Saturday, you could see him save his energy floating around center ice while the other guys dashed into corners both on offense and defense. I know he'll double shift, but even then his defense is even worse if you can imagine. It was scary in overtime when there were back to back odd man breakaways and Alex got caught floating in center ice....he was the only one back to make funny faces to attempt to distract the shooter. It worked out in our favor but I couldn't help but laugh. Oh well Alex, keep scoring your goal and maybe we'll find another Scott Stevens to help you out.
